Why You Should Purchase Copper Bathtubs

These days there are so many different types of bathtub on the market that choosing the right one for you can be a challenge. However, instead of getting too carried away with the latest styles and designs, why not look into the past for your answer? One type in particular that you may want to give some serious thought is the copper bathtub. This is a sturdy material that has been used for thousands of years and is still one of the most used metals today. Besides being used in a wide range of products from computers to electrical wiring, there are also copper bathtubs.

The copper bathtub can be found in many cultures, but it is most prominently seen in Mexico and previous Mexican territories. Here it is typically made by taking a few plates of raw copper and using extreme heat to soften it up so it can be hammered and shaped into a comfortable bathtub shape. The separate sheets can be welded into each other as necessary until the perfect shape is achieved. The antique models are especially nice as they are hand made by artisans which truly makes each piece a work of art. Usually working in small groups they meticulously craft the plates piece by piece until they have reached their finished forms.

After you do some searching, you will find that copper bathtubs are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes. However, especially when you are dealing with antiques the most common type you will find is the freestanding clawfoot tub. Also known as a slipper tub due to its unique shape, this is a very comfortable choice that is perfect for soaking. Because it is freestanding it can be easily installed and reinstalled wherever you wish and if you later move into a different home you can take it with you. Probably the only drawback is the fact that these tubs do not commonly come with built in shower heads.

Buying a copper bathtub can be a difficult decision because most people would rather buy a tub made out of a more modern material. It can take some effort to keep them in good condition and looking nice while a tub made from a contemporary acrylic can simply be washed down with soap and water and it will look great. To make matters worse, copper bathtubs can be quite heavy and difficult to move. It will take a few people to move them and get them installed.

On the other hand, there are many benefits to choosing a copper bathtub, not the least of which is the charm and elegance that it can add to a bathroom. Because they are so rare it will give your home something unique that truly sets it apart from the other homes on the block.
