Modern Bathtub Styles

Are you replacing your bathtub or renovating the entire bathroom? Have you been out of the interior design world for a while and want to know what’s current in bathtub styles? You may find that a lot has changed – and yet stayed the same. Some styles are brand new while others have simply returned from the past. Keep reading for a look at some of the modern bathtub styles you’ll find in your search.

Bathtub Shapes

Bathtubs it seems come in almost any shape imaginable. Well, maybe not quite. But certainly any of the basic shapes we’re familiar with. You don’t just have to own a rectangular bathtub anymore. Popular out-of-the-box modern bathtub styles include round and square bathtubs. Round tubs often require more bathroom space while square tubs can often accommodate squished quarters. Square and round tubs can become corner tubs as well, opening up the room and fitting into smaller bathrooms.

Though we’re talking about modern bathtub styles, some bathtubs never seem to go out of style. Victorian style bathtubs, including clawfoot tubs, pedestal tubs, and slipper tubs, are all very much in vogue in this modern era. Despite the minimalist, industrial, and other contemporary designs going on, the simple elegance and feminism of Victorian style tubs is still popular. Of course, some designers have taken liberties with the originals and put a more modern twist on it. But the essence of the Victorian age is still there.

Bathtub Materials

Some hard and fast bathtub materials are still very much alive, some are newer trends in bathtub materials, and some old-fashioned favorites are back with a vengeance. Acrylic is still a favorite stand-by. It’s light but durable and doesn’t damage easily. It’s also affordable and therefore a good choice for many modern bathtub styles. Even if the style is a bit couture, the price tag may not have to be when it’s molded in acrylic. If you fancy something a little edgier, browse the selection of stainless steel, glass, and even stone bathtubs available. Below is a short video explaining how acrylic bathtubs are made:

Just as classic shapes have been reborn so have classic materials. Cast iron bathtubs have made a return, especially paired with old-fashioned tub styles. But even more in the forefront than cast iron tubs are the selection of copper modern bathtub styles. And copper is found more plentifully in modern shapes than cast iron. Then there is also some amount of wood floating around out there, especially in the soaking tub category. Oddly enough, though classics, these materials usually come with a higher price tag. However, they are tried and true and guaranteed to last for a long time.

As you can see, your selection of bathtub styles is extensive. In order to make a good choice, you will need to filter to find what will work for your bathroom and you. For example, consider your bathroom’s size, the style of your bathroom, and what materials you’ve already used or plan to use. Then broaden your horizons a little and look at styles previously unavailable or unpopular. Whatever you prefer, you’ll have your pick of today’s modern bathtub styles.
